As ice dissolves on Anchor Bay and snow clears from New Baltimore's streets, residents and visitors can look forward to several things downtown in the warmer months.
Here's a preview of some newcomers and anticipated events in the historic section of town:
- The return of the Detroit Institute of Arts Inside|Out program, where the city transforms to a makeshift art gallery.
- The annual Bay-Rama Fishfly Festival that brings carnival rides, a beauty pageant, fireworks and more during the multi-day attraction in late June.
- Kayak rentals will set up for the first time at Walter and Mary Burke Park in the old beach section next to the water tower.
- A public harbor that was built over wintertime will welcome boaters to the beach next to the kayak rental.
- The first-ever music festival with jazz, bluegrass and classic rock will come to the park in August benefiting the Paula Tutman Toothfairy Foundation.
- The annual Anchor Bay Triathlon will take to land and lake again July 13 throughout the downtown.
- Downtown Development Authority streetscape upgrades, including greenery and benches, will enhance the aesthetic appearance of the downtown.
- The Little Mustard Seed Cafe, which will feature all natural and organic soups, salads and wrap sandwiches and Nature's Boundaries skincare products, plans to open in spring on Washington Street between ECCO Family Bookstore and Atlas Locksmith.
- Women's clothing and accessory store Willy & Babbish Boutique is also set to open in spring on the other side of Washington Street, according to its Facebook page.
- A restaurant/nightclub, which hasn't officially been named yet, is expected to complete construction in June at the old Anchor Bay Pharmacy.

Fantastic! Sounds great--keep the progress growing!--Lets clean up downtown--too much potential to allow it to wallow---.....No excuse not to capitalize and attract business and people to our quaint downtown--just look at Lexington, Port Austin, etc--potention that needs to be tapped into. Then we need to look at neighborhood roads to fix up.
