UPDATE: Anchor Bay Wrestlers Finish Fourth at State Finals
Eric and Larry Rybarz both place fourth at state tournament at the Palace.
AUBURN HILLS—Anchor Bay wrestlers are competing at the Division 1 state individual wrestling finals at the Palace this weekend. Check in with Patch for updates throughout the day.
UPDATE 3:47 P.M. SATURDAY: Anchor Bay's Eric Rybarz and Larry Rybarz both finished fourth in their respective weight classes.
Larry Rybarz lost to Angelo Latora of Portage Central 4-2 in overtime of their third-place match at 135 pounds. Rybarz earlier had defeated Jake Baker of Battle Creek Lakeview with a pin in 2:29.
Eric Rybarz lost to Oxford's Rocco Borg, whom Rybarz had defeated earlier in the tournament, 2-0 in the third-place match at 119 pounds. Rybarz also defeated Livonia Churchill's Jake Meadows 6-2.
UPDATE 10:19 P.M. FRIDAY: Eric Rybarz lost in the state semifinals at 119 pounds after losing 3-1 to Alex Molloy of Southgate Anderson.
UPDATE 8:43 P.M. FRIDAY: Larry Rybarz suffered a tough 3-2 loss to Alec Mooradian of Detroit Catholic Central. Rybarz is now in the consolation bracket.
UPDATE 3:08 P.M. FRIDAY: Eric Rybarz of Anchor Bay has advanced to the semifinals at 119 pounds after defeating Rocco Borg of Oxford 7-2.
Meanwhile, Johnny Bourcier stayed alive at 152 pounds after he lost his opening-round match on Thursday. Bourcier defeated Chad Czerneski of Howell 9-2 in the consolation round.
UPDATE 1:58 P.M. FRIDAY: Larry Rybarz of Anchor Bay has advanced to the semifinals of the championship round at 135 pounds, according to the MHSAA's official website. Rybarz defeated Mike Thomas of Oxford 6-0. He will face Detroit Catholic Central's Alec Mooradian next.
Eric Rybarz of Anchor Bay defeated Farmington’s Kevin Kennerly 7-1 in the opening round at 119 pounds of the Division 1 state individual wrestling finals at the Palace on Thursday. Rybarz will face Rocco Borg of Oxford next. Kennerly was the only Falcons wrestler to lose in the opening round. He will face A.J. Presley of Holt in the consolation rounds.
Larry Rybarz pinned Matt Pfeffer of Fraser in 42 seconds in an opening-round match at 135 pounds. Rybarz will face Mike Thomas of Oxford next.
