Bored Kids? Here's Some Things to Do This Summer

Find some family fun in the Chesterfield and New Baltimore area.

Tired of hearing "I'm bored!" from your out-of-school offspring?

Here's some ways to keep the munchkins occupied this summer.

Picnic in the park

Take your pick from waterfront views at Burke in New Baltimore or Brandenburg Park in Chesterfield Township. Or, check out our complete list of local parks for a daytime picnic or evening play date.

Shhh! Don't tell them it's educational

Trying to keep the learning going in the hot summer months? Make it fun with trips to your local libraries--MacDonald Public Library and Chesterfield Township Library--and their slew of interesting and engaging activities. While you're there, inquire about the museum pass, check out a DVD or--dare we even say--read a book.

Splash around indoors

Forget the sunscreen and dive into the Anchor Bay Aquatic Center that offers family swim time and lessons for your little fish.

Catch a flick

It's a promising family movie season with Madagascar: Europe's Most Wanted, Brave, Ice Age: Continental Drift, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days and more out in theaters. See local listings at MJR in Chesterfield. Or, you can check out DVDs at Blockbuster on 23 Mile.

Listen to music at the museum

Bring the children to Grand Pacific House Museum for some culture and music at 7 p.m. Monday nights in July. The family concert series is held in the events barn behind the museum. For more museum fun, consider the Chesterfield Township Historical Village in Chesterfield, Stahl's Auto Museum in Chesterfield or Selfridge Air Museum in Harrison Township.

Exercise on rainy days

American Gymnastics and the Bounce House allow the kids to jump around and blow off some steam indoors. The Bounce House requires no reservation for regular play while American Gymnastics has open gym 7:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, 1:15-2:30 p.m. Wednesday and open gym is from 1:30-4 p.m. Friday while Friday Night Flip Out, for ages 7 and up, is 8:30-11 p.m.

Play with your vegetables

Pal around on the veggie play area at the Mall at Partridge Creek in neighboring Clinton Township or bring the swimsuits for fountain sprinkler time at the mall.

When you can't leave the house. Send those little ones outside to find other kids in the neighborhood to use their imagination and play , ...ball, hopscotch, jacks, board games, hide and seek, Red Rover, rollerskate, kick the can, build a fort with boxes, dolls, cowboys and indians etc.....key word here was outside! Summer fun!! If we said we were bored more chores were given so we stayed busy and out of Moms hair. :)
