Crime Blotter: 'Huffing' Incident Full of Hot Air

Alleged Huffer's Only Crime: Cleaning Dashboard

said they were called to the evening of July 19 on a report that a man was 'huffing"–otherwise known as abusing an inhalant–a cylinder of compressed air.

Upon arrival, police spoke to a man who had a can of air in his possession. However, he told the officer he was using it to clean the dashboard of his 1997 GMC truck. Police conducted several sobriety tests, including having him walk a straight line and recite the alphabet.

He passed the tests and no arrest was made.

Driver Pumps Gas and Gets Away Without Paying

A driver in a white Ford Thunderbird pumped $19.84 worth of gas around 2:30 p.m. on July 22 and sped off without paying, police said.

The fuel theft took place at the Sunoco Gas Station at 35434 Twenty-Three Mile in New Baltimore.

Since the clerk did not catch the driver's license plate, police said they are keeping an eye out for the car during the investigation.

Hit-and-run Driver Cites Fear in Fleeing Scene

stopped a car at 23 Mile near Baker that was suspected in a hit-and-run accident in late June in Sterling Heights.

The unidentified driver acknowledged he fled the scene of the crash because he was scared and his car has been uninsured for about two months. His car was visibly damaged in the front end and on the front passenger fender, according to police.

The car was impounded and the case was turned over to Sterling Heights, police said.
