Happy St. Patch-rick's Day! Raise Your Glass to Irish Drinks

Step away from the green beer and try one of these alcoholic beverages. And, don't forget to drink responsibly.

It’s that time of year again, when everyone puts on their green and gets to be Irish. If you find yourself in a bar on St. Patrick’s Day, you could always enjoy a glass of green beer. Or, you could try one of these Irish drinks and really start to feel like a leprechaun. Here’s New Baltimore-Chesterfield Patch's list of the five best drinks to order on St. Patrick’s Day. Just remember to do so with a designated driver in your company.

Guinness
A beer so Irish it’s practically the national symbol. Dark on the bottom and foamy at the top, this beer is a bold stout that is sure to make anyone feel Irish. People have said the after-taste reminds them of things like coffee, chocolate or even tobacco. One thing’s for sure, a nice pint of Guinness is a treat any day of the year.

Irish Coffee
A hearty drink with many options. For the bold, they can add a little bit of Irish whiskey to their cup of joe, but if you like it sweeter, you can add some Irish cream. Top it off with some whipped cream, and you have a beverage that’s good with breakfast (if you get started on celebrating early) or after dinner with dessert.

Dirty Girl Scout
This sweet shot is a guilty pleasure in a glass. A mixture of Irish cream with chocolate and mint liqueurs, this drink tastes just like Thin Mints Girl Scout cookies—albeit, more grown up. This is a great drink for anyone who likes something smooth and sweet with an Irish twist. Just don’t expect it to be sold door-to-door.

Lady Shamrock
Most Irish drinks are hearty, so here’s one for people who want something a little fruity. Mix Irish whiskey with melon liqueur and squeeze in a little lime juice. An Emerald Isle twist on a whiskey sour, this green drink doesn’t need food coloring. It just needs a little ice, and, of course, someone to tell you when to stop drinking them.

Irish Car Bomb
You’re going to need the luck of the Irish for this one. It’s a devilish mix of the holy trinity of Irish drinks—a half a pint of Guinness with a shot of Irish whiskey poured in it, and a shot of Irish cream on the side. Drop the cream shot right into the pint glass and chug it before the cream curdles. Only one is recommended, or you'll be feeling green and not in the festive way. You better make sure you have Friday off work—and Saturday too for that matter.

Now you can really drink like the Irish this St. Patrick’s Day instead of resorting to another green beer. As always, remember to drink responsibly, drive safe, and have a great St. Patrick’s day. Cheers.
