Construction on the public boat docks along Anchor Bay is near completion.

Finishing touches will be done in spring, but a bulk of the construction took place this winter.

There will be 10-finger docks that will allow 16 boats in the public harbor in what's known as the old beach section of Walter and Mary Burke Park.

The creation of a public dock aims to lure more visitors to the city's waterfront and nearby businesses in the historic downtown. The city secured a $240,000 Port Authority grant for the boat slips and a 24-foot police patrol boat and is matching the grant with $25,000 from the Walter and Mary Burke Fund.

A kayak rental company is also scheduled to come to the beach this year.
