Highlights from the 2011 Anchor Bay Triathlon.

At 7 a.m. Saturday, 260 participants took the plunge into Lake St. Clair to mark the start of the annual Anchor Bay Triathlon. After completing the half-mile swim, athletes biked for 11 miles and ran for three more as they tested their abilities and endurance on the hot July day.

The event, sponsored by the New Baltimore Recreation, went on to cap off another triumphant year with the help of many local sponsors, volunteers and support from the community.

Congratulations to this year's overall male and female winners: Craig Fitzpatrick and Rebecca Forfar.

Complete 2011 Anchor Bay Triathlon results can be viewed on the official race website. Watch New Baltimore-Chesterfield Patch's video above.

The Sunday before the event, I really threw my back out and even up until Thursday, wasn't sure I could compete! Since I so rarely hurt my back, and had been working hard and really looking forward to this event, You can imagine my frustration. By Thurs., felt like maybe I could do this and my chiropracter, who couldn't get me in until Friday, said go ahead- be careful and stop if it hurts! Well, Saturday came and I felt good. Had a GREAT time and did better than I expected! was only 2 minutes slower than I expected before injury. You guys ran a great event and I plan to do it again! Thanks- Karen
