Large Retailer Inquires About Chesterfield Vacancies

Two empty storefronts have caught the attention of a sporting goods chain, according to the township.

Representatives from Dunham's Sports inquired this week about two empty storefronts in Chesterfield Township, according to the Planning Department.

The large retailer was checking out the former Kmart on Gratiot near 23 Mile as well as the defunct Farmer Jack store in the nearby Target plaza, Assistant Planning Administrator Sherri Gisler said Wednesday.

If the retailer wants to set up in the recently closed Kmart, it would not need to request for a change of use because Kmart sold apparel, Gisler said.

The sporting goods store had not submitted plans for any property in the township by Wednesday afternoon, she said.

Locally, there is a Dunham's Sports on Hall Road in Sterling Heights and on Gratiot in Roseville.

I'd love to see a Super Dunham's in that location. Dick's Sporting Goods is a great store and close by, but it would be nice to have some variety when shopping for hunting/fishing/camping gear.

I'd love to see a Trader Joe's!
