Suspect Accused of Violent Restaurant Theft Ordered to Stay Away from McDonald's
Roland Lee Moore Jr., 35, is lodged in Macomb County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.
A 35-year-old man accused of attacking a McDonald's customer last week in Chesterfield was arraigned Monday on felony charges at 42-2 District Court in New Baltimore.
Roland Lee Moore Jr. was placed on a $500,000 cash/surety bond during his video arraignment from Macomb County Jail. Moore was ordered to stay away from the chain restaurant, off drugs and alcohol and remain in Michigan if he were to post bond, according to the court.
A preliminary exam was set for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 before Judge William Hackel III, court officials said Monday.
Moore faces up to life imprisonment if convicted of armed robbery and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder. The charges stem from a Tuesday night robbery at the McDonald's on 23 Mile west of Interstate 94.
In that crime, the suspect approached a woman paying for food in the drive-thru lane, leaned into her open driver's side window and snatched her purse and laptop that rested on the center console and passenger seat, Chesterfield Detective Sgt. Deron Myers said.
When the woman fought back, Moore stabbed her hands several times. She was treated and released from the hospital soon after for cuts to her hands, Myers said.
Chased away by another customer wielding a bat, Moore then escaped by bicycle and subsequently fled to a residence in the 24 Mile area. From there, he packed up his belongings and a two-day manhunt ensued.
With help from several agencies, including the County of Macomb Enforcement Team, also known as COMET, Roseville police, Michigan State Police, U.S. Marshals Service and the Department of Corrections, Chesterfield Township police arrested him outside a gas station Friday afternoon in the 9 Mile and Schoenherr area.
Roseville police said they will also seek to charge him with a 20-year felony of unarmed robbery. That charge pertains to a Thursday purse-snatching of an 82-year-old woman outside National Coney Island in the city.
Moore, who has an extensive criminal history, has been a parole absconder since November 2011, township police said.
