Menards will open its first store in the region Feb. 19 in Chesterfield Township, the retailer announced early this week.
“We are really excited to open the doors to our first store in the Detroit-metro area. Homeowners, tenants, business owners and contractors will now have great access to a full-line of building materials and supplies at the lowest prices in the area," Menards spokesman Jeff Abbott stated in a news release.
The retailer, which has locations across the Midwest, sells anything from garden supplies to brand appliances. The township store will feature a line of convenience groceries "as a one-stop shopping experience."
Michael Ruthig, Chesterfield Menards General Manager said in the prepared statement, “We’re very glad that we can bring more shopping convenience to Chesterfield and will roll up our sleeves and get to work to provide the best in home improvement products at the best prices.”
The family-owned company started in 1960 and has grown to operating 273 stores in 14 Midwestern states, including 23 stores in Michigan, the company stated. The township store announced earlier this winter it was hiring for a variety of positions.

When I lived in the Lansing area this is where you would go for higher end fixtures and materials. Much better quality stuff than The Depot or Lowes. Then about seven years ago I moved to Chesterfield and can't be more pleased that the only Detroit store is practically in my backyard. Yippeeeeeee. From now on its my first stop for all my remodel needs.

Im so surprised that here it is 2 days before the opening and I live right behind the shopping area and there has been NO mailing for this opening. No information about hiring NOTHING! So far there havent been real good neighbors.

Its a 'soft opening', this week. Not their official grand opening which is why there hasn't been any mailings. Also, the store has huge hiring signs up for weeks. They could be seen from 94.

They will give Home Depot and Lowes a run for their money. I've been to a few stores and they have better selection and prices than the competition. They also have items in stock that are special order at the others. I'm glad they are here!

Been procrastinating on doing many home improvements. Tired of the same old choices at HD and Lowes. Now the planning can begin!

Welcome to town! More jobs, more choices. I will just wait for the "New Store " excitement wears down. Went there on soft opening weekend and on Grand Opening weekend, just to remember why I no longer work retail.
