A lightning fire Wednesday night at Aspen Creek Apartments has left minimal damage in most units, Chesterfield Township fire officials said Monday.

The blaze took place at approximately 8:30 p.m. between front and back units inside the complex at 23 Mile east of Gratiot around the time a storm knocked out power. Township firefighters, along with multiple area fire departments, responded to reports of smoke inside the building and used thermal imaging to detect the flames behind a wall, Chesterfield Fire Chief Doug Charbonneau said.

"The building itself was shut down for the night," said Charbonneau, adding electricity had been cut off as firefighters worked the scene.

No one was injured in the fire, he said.

Most tenants who had been evacuated from the complex were able to return home by Thursday, but renters in at least two apartments that experienced water and smoke damage were displaced, he said.
