New Baltimore Mayor Expects Bid From Mystery Developer
Mayor Larry Smith said he hopes to have prime waterfront property in New Baltimore developed in the near future.
An unidentified developer plans to submit a bid on waterfront property in downtown New Baltimore, Mayor Larry Smith said Monday night.
"He is preparing to give us a bid on the property as it stands right now," Smith told city council without disclosing the name of the mystery buyer.
That potential offer on the city-owned property, including the former police station on Front Street, comes on the heels of a majority of city council rejecting Smith's request for commercial appraisals.
Last week, the mayor said he was meeting with the developer in hopes the failed motion would not scare him off. Smith has previously cited his vision for the waterfront land is to lure locals and visitors with development.
Several new additions are anticipated in the downtown this year, including kayak rentals and public boat docks at the beach.
