Olive Garden Restaurant Coming to Chesterfield
Township officials said Thursday the popular Italian restaurant is heading to Gratiot and 23 Mile.
A popular restaurant has cooked up plans to serve Chesterfield Township patrons.
Olive Garden is expected to break ground in spring in a plaza on Gratiot near 23 Mile Road, township Planning Director Janice Giese said Thursday.
"There's an Olive Garden coming in front of Kohl's," Giese said, adding township officials are excited about the project. "They're building a new building up in front of the parking lot. They are through (Chesterfield Township) Planning Commission approval and they're in engineering now."
The restaurant chain that owns Olive Garden had long eyed that specific section of the township for business. At one point, a Chili's Bar and Grill was interested in opening in front of the Kmart store, Giese said.
When that never came to fruition, township officials continued to pursue the national chain, eventually attracting Olive Garden.
Meanwhile, Kohl's in Chesterfield Township is expected to start a $1.4-million interior and exterior renovation project in March, township Building Director Shawn Shortt said Thursday.
New flooring, dressing rooms and facade improvements will be part of the project that is expected to be done in phases, as not to disrupt shopping, Shortt said.
What do you think of plans for an Olive Garden in town?

We think it's great! With K-mart leaving, it will be nice to have something new up at 23 & Gratiot!

I have been hoping for this for a long time. Now all we need is a Costco and Aldi's and Chesterfield will be perfect!!!

It would be GREAT if we could get a big box store or chain restaurant to go into one of the empty buildings in the same general area...but Olive Garden is an awesome restaurant! Glad to see more growth!

I must have gotten a vibe because I was just thinking a couple of weeks ago that it sure would be nice to have one of my favorite restaurants in Chesterfield which of course is Olive Gardens so I wouldn't have to drive all the way to Lakeside... I also agree with Michele Webb about going into one of the empty buildings in the same area. I would think cost wize a good idea..... although Olive Gardens has always been a seperate building with the same Italian style look. ... So whatever they decide I am glad they are coming.
