Photos: Suspect in Fatal Hit-and-Run Arrested in New Baltimore

A 49-year-old Algonac man, who was killed in a Sunday crash, has been identified by police.

A 40-year-old New Baltimore man was expected to face charges of leaving the scene of a fatal accident that claimed the life of a 49-year-old Algonac resident, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office.

Timothy Clore was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at approximately 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the 9400 block of Dixie Highway in Ira Township after a pickup truck hit his motorcycle, the Sheriff's Office said.

"The suspect fled from that location to New Baltimore, where he lost control of his vehicle," New Baltimore Police Chief Tim Wiley said.

He then ran into his home on Baltimore Street, where police from the Sheriff’s Office, New Baltimore, Chesterfield Township and Michigan State Police responded after citizens spotted him, authorities said.

As a search warrant was being prepared to enter the home, the suspect came out. He was arrested without incident. He was taken to River District Hospital to be examined for injuries from the accident and then transported to St. Clair County Intervention and Detention Center, the Sheriff's Office stated in a news release.

The crash remains under investigation and charges, including leaving the scene of a fatal accident, were being sought, the Sheriff's Office stated.

It was not immediately released whether speed or alcohol were factors.

It is heart wrenching - an innocent man had to lose his life because another had no concern for anyone else. The suspect should have been off the street years ago but chose to be above the law and do his own thing. Mr. Clore went quickly surrounded by strangers who cared. It is a vision that won't leave my mind any too soon. Praying for all.

Hi Lori ..what do you mean that he should have been off the streets years ago? Does he have a history of drunk driving ? Just wondering. So sad.

Lori, you were there when he passed? Tim a.k.a Chops was a very dear friend of my husband and I. I am both saddened and horified of this accident!! Did this heartless man think nothing more of my friend than to just run him over like a squirrel in the road? I will be there when he gets sentenced, you can count on that.

Lilly, He was drunk and had three prior DUI,s. He is being held on a half million dollar bond. He had no license and should not have even been driving. From what I have been told by locals he is the town drunk! He should have been in jail years ago. Just hope the owner of the truck is prosecuted for furnishing a drunk with no license a vehicle a felony in MI. RIP Chops

He just got out of prison for a two year sentence for DUI and drug convictions. He is a drunken drug addict. Check the OTIS web site to confirm. He should not have been driving.

I didn't see him on the OTIS website, many others with the same last name but not this guy. But yes, Lily, he was driving on a suspended license, 3 prior DUI's etc. Should have been off the streets.

Kelly C - yes my daughter and I were there - I was the one that called 911. Unfortunately from what I understand the guy that hit him didn't care about anyone but himself - life was a big party for him. I hope this time they throw the book at him. I am so sorry he had to take your friends life. Take some consolation in the fact that your friend passed quickly - I am so sorry for your loss.

Sorry Herb, I wasn't aware it was your brother, you have my deepest sympathies. I guess I am on the wrong site - I show many by the last name of Gill - and the only James does not match the description - either way he needs to be put away for a very long time.

Our Prayers and deepest sympathies go out to the families and those involved in this situation. My husband was the one who stopped and took the photos on this story. We were on our way home and saw all the police cars on Baltimore Street and at that point didn't know what happened. It just goes to show how precious life is and in the blink of an eye how lives can be changed. I can only hope and pray some good may come from such a tragic event. Herb my condolences to you personally and to my friends Roy and Jessica Clore (nephew of the Tim and his wife).
