Chesterfield Township police warned the public Thursday the parole absconder is considered armed and dangerous.
UPDATE: Chesterfield Township police said Friday afternoon they have taken Roland Lee Moore Jr. into custody without incident. Township police, along with several other law enforcement agencies, caught Moore in the 9 Mile Road and Schoenherr area following a two-day manhunt. Check back with Patch for a complete story.
Police are on the search for a 35-year-old man accused of robbing and attacking a female customer in the McDonald's drive-thru lane in Chesterfield Township, investigators said Thursday.
Roland Lee Moore Jr., a parole absconder with a violent background, has been charged in arrest warrants for armed robbery and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, Chesterfield Township Detective Sgt. Deron Myers said.
Moore should be considered armed and dangerous and may be in the Roseville or Eastpointe area, police said.
He is being sought for his alleged role in a Tuesday night crime at the McDonald's on 23 Mile Road west of Interstate 94. At 10:30 p.m. that night, Moore approached a woman paying for food in the drive-thru lane, leaned into her open driver's side window and snatched her purse and laptop that rested on center console and passenger seat, Myers said.
When the woman fought back, Moore stabbed her hands several times, Myers said, adding she has since been treated and released from the hospital for the cuts.
A Chesterfield man, who was a couple cars behind the victim in the drive-thru lane, witnessed the attack and chased Moore with a baseball bat that he had inside his vehicle. But the suspect made it to a bicycle he parked behind the restaurant, fleeing across 23 Mile, police said.
Investigators were able to identify Moore as the suspect through a photo lineup with witnesses and learned he was staying in the Carriage Way mobile homes near 24 Mile. However, when police went to the residence last night, they learned he had packed up his belongings with an unknown female, police said.
"He has been on the run from parole since November 2011," Myers said.
Moore has an extensive criminal background, including assault with a dangerous weapon, fleeing police and resisting and obstructing police, according to township police.
If convicted of the latest charges, he could face up to life imprisonment.
Moore is described as 240 pounds with a shaved head, reddish-brown mustache and goatee. He is heavily tattooed from the neck down. Anyone with information is asked to call Chesterfield police at 586-949-2322, anytime.
