Restaurant Planned for Former Anchor Bay Pharmacy

Site plans to refurbish the historic building on Washington Street were approved Monday night at the New Baltimore City Council meeting.

From distributing medicine to serving up dishes, a historic New Baltimore building is prepping for change.

The former Anchor Bay Pharmacy on Washington Street is slated to become a restaurant, new owner Matthew Cipriano told City Council Monday night.

Site plans call for the building to be refurbished, with upgrades including changes to the facade and windows replacements, according to planning commission documents. The commission approved the plans Jan. 15 that went before council for authorization this week.

Cipriano did not discuss the business in detail during the meeting, but described it as a "restaurant, bar, night club" in a pre-application form for a Class C liquor license in New Baltimore.

Building Official Greg Nikkel said Monday specific plans about the restaurant are not immediately set and interior upgrades are expected in the near future.

The historic district hosts other eateries, Little Camille's By the Bay, The Town Pump, as well as Stahl's Bakery, which serves food. The new restaurant would join recently opened businesses on Green Street, 4M Tire and Auto Detail Shop, and Biggby Coffee, in the downtown area.

Editor's note: This article was updated at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday to include The Town Pump as one of the existing eateries in downtown New Baltimore.

The town pump bar and grill has been in business for over 70 years! Good food and reasonably priced!!!! No recognition for a business that has been around for over 70 years!!!

We need a family dinner someplace to go for breakfast as well as affordable dinners. A night club is good but we still need the planing commision or who ever is in charge of finding bussness for down town to start thinking outside the box we have hundreds of young family's living in new Baltimore and most say there is no reason to come down town. What about skateboard shops or hobbie shops music stores ( guitar drums ect) Coney Island

Although it was sad to see Mr. Halstead close Anchor Bay Pharmacy, it's great to see one of the most historic buildings in New Baltimore's downtown being utilized for a restaurant. The building itself goes back to 1906 and started out as Koenig's Dry Goods and later became Bate's Pharmacy and Striber's Drug Store.

Its about time but the The Town Pump should've been recognized FIRST! Speaking of them, they do serve breakfast on the weekends!

True, and I wish they would have their neon sign on sometime when I go by there to take a picture of their building.
I think it was nice that Ms. Arboscello not only amended the article but left all the comments which allowed a great place to get even more publicity!
