Chesterfield Township police are looking for several teens responsible for a drive-by paintball shooting that targeted multiple people in the community.
Neighborhood targeted
Around 10 p.m. Aug. 16, police responded to a neighborhood on D.W. Seaton between 23 and 24 Mile roads. Three female home owners who had converged on a front porch reported a car pulling up, with the male driver shouting vulgarities, and then paintballs were fired toward the women from inside the vehicle.
In the darkness, the victims could not make out the car nor decipher at first whether the shots were stemming from a real firearm. Adding to the confusion, the paint was orange and was mistaken as blood in the immediate moments following the shooting.
"They said they thought they were actually shot, by the noise of the gun," Detective Sgt. Deron Myers said Friday.
At least one of the women suffered bruises on her arm from the impact. Several paint balls were also shot at the home, Myers said.
The victims were unable to identify the car or the suspects, but heard male and female voices from inside the car, believed to be of teenagers, he said.
Bowling alley struck
After police arrived to the neighborhood, they learned that nearby Premier Lanes and its patrons had been hit by paintballs moments before the subdivision attack. During that incident, one person was struck in the forehead by a paintball and several more were fired at the bowling alley exterior, police said.
Since the parking lot was well-lit, witnesses were able to report the suspects were inside a dark-blue Crown Victoria-style vehicle.
"They said it resembled a stripped-down Michigan State Police trooper car," Myers said.
No license plate was recorded.
He said the suspects could face an assault charge.
Anyone with information is asked to call township Detective Brian Dowell at 586-949-3375.
