A trial for a parole absconder accused of stabbing and robbing a fast-food customer in Chesterfield Township is scheduled to begin Tuesday.
Roland Lee Moore Jr. faces up to life in prison if convicted of armed robbery and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder for the Jan. 31, 2012 attack in the McDonald's restaurant at 23 Mile near Interstate 94. During the incident, a woman in the drive-thru lane was stabbed in the hand and her belongings were stolen.
Moore turned down a deal calling for him to face between 12 and 23 years, his defense attorney Randy Rodnick said in early December.
That move would have paved the way for him to possibly receive the lighter end of the sentence in exchange for the guilty plea, but Moore instead opted to force the trial, Rodnick said.
The trial is to begin at 10 a.m. before Macomb County Circuit Court Judge David Viviano in Mount Clemens, according to court records.
