Visions for Vacancies: What Do You Want to Replace Former Farmer Jack Space?

Patch asks readers to share their hopes for vacancies in Chesterfield and New Baltimore.

You've passed them frequently. You remembered when they were hustling retail centers. Perhaps, you shopped at them and wished something else would take their places.

In our weekly Visions for Vacancies feature, readers become pseudo city planners by offering an opportunity to share dreams for empty storefronts.

The first subject in this series is the old Farmer Jack storefront in the Target plaza at Gratiot and 23 Mile. The defunct grocery chain has left a vacancy in a highly visible spot in Chesterfield Township. Nothing has replaced it and, as of recently, no official plans have been submitted to take its place.

So, Patch is asking our readers--many of whom live, work and shop in this community: What would you like to see there?

Share your ideas with us in the comments section below.

I would like to see a fruit market on the same scale as Salvaggios on Hall Road. We definitely do not need another drug store or bank.

Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Barnes and Noble for example. Also, I agree with Lynn's post -- It would be great to see something like Nino's or Randazzo's there. The Meijer there is a little rough and could use the competition to get them to clean up the place. Target brings a lot of traffic into that retail center so whoever goes in the old Farmer Jack will do well.

I have to agree with the above posts. A Nino's or Randazzo's would be great! It would br really nice to gave a good fruit store in the Chesterfield/New Baltimore area. The Meijers on 23 definitely needs a clean up. The one on 26 is much nicer.

As stated above, a fruit and vegetable store--Nino's, Randazzo's, Pete and Franks--would be great--no more drug stores, bs stores--we need some decent store to run into for fresh produce! And lunchmeat--all at reasonable prices.

Whole Foods or Trader Joe's would be great! Both Nino's & Randazzo's are both within a reasonable driving distance from this area already.

A super dooper "Big Daddy's" store for all the local green thumbs of the area. It is time to support our local economy and farmers and get back to the basics. Know they neighbor, maybe thie neighbors wife would'nt hurt as well (brains and beauty) and what you put into your body is safe, grown to perfection and gives you the results you deserve. Enough of these places selling pipe dreams made of alcohol and modified seeds approved by the gov't and grown for you by Monsato in the form of pretty fruit and veggies that may be killing you and your peeps and now are causing sooper strains of bug and weeds and soon products used in agent orange shall be incorporated into many more seeds of your future eating crop from all those stores you speak of. Help bring down crime, make others smile more often, feel much less depressed and so very much more. Be brave, be bold, be wise and more than anything be smart. We don't need more food or alcohol - just look around at the families, the local communities. The food and drink are killing our people. Most are dumb to making smart choices any longer as is zombies. What are they doing to your stuff man? Go green, go organic and do what is right. Grow your own greens and tomatoes. Quit drinking alcohol if you do not know how to drink but rather drink to feel different and get drunk more than say one or two times in a year. Who you going to trust? The man or me? Thank-You!

I would like to see it divided in half and put in a nice family owned Fruit Market and Italian Bakery. We just moved out here and can not find a bakery anywhere that makes bread.

I don't seem to be the only one who thinks a fruit market would be a great idea in that space or in the old VG's space on Green Street. Nino's or Randazzo's would be fine, but any other reputable fruit/vegetable market would be fine, too.

I agree. I would love to see whole foods or Nino's type of store. Hopefully Chesterfield can make that happen. I recently moved from a city with a Papa Joes. Whole Foods is the farthest from here. Thanks.

I would love to see a Nino or Randazzo. Really need something like that in our community. COSTCO is another at the top of my list but don't think that location is large enough.

Whole foods would be great at that location. I think we could also use a Fudruckers, Qudoba or Chipoltle as well as a Jamba Juice and a Pancake House to fill out the strip of vacancies.

Trader Joe's for sure! I've been a fan since I lived in California. Seems like Northern Macomb County doesn't get the "good stuff". We need a business to recognize that we have good taste in things too!

Maybe a BIG LOTS or another Walmart.

Trader Joe's gets my vote. I'm tired of driving to the Rochester store. Randazzo's my second choice.

I would vote for a great fruit/veggie/meat market. All of the surrounding stores produce is horrible in quality and rots on the ride home most times.

Include my vote for Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, or an independent organic grocer and/or meat market. Currently get our Amish chicken/turkey from Cheech's in Eastern Market, would love a local source.

I understand that you think we don't have a hoice, but remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease. It may take time but something will come of it eventually. Our township is out there promoting us beleive or not to attract businesses here. These may seem minute, but look we have Buffalo Wild Wings, Dunkin Donuts, now there is a home improvement store called meanards over by Wal Mart coming soon. There is Bigbys Coffee in New Baltimore. So the area is growing even though it may be slow it takes time.

As for a whole foods market they are mostly put in affluent (wealthy) neighborhoods. It would be nice to see one though. I'm in favor of Traer Joe's, Ninos, or a nice fruit/vegetable market, or an international food market would be cool also. kidcat24 you think we may not have a choice in this, but when more than one voice speaks out companies do look at places.

Ditto to all of the food market ideas, no more retail. Now when do we get our new store?
