What Do You Think? Did Obama Bring Back the Auto Industry?
Leave a comment to let us know what you think about President Obama's remarks earlier this week.
President Obama visited southeastern Michigan earlier this week, and he made waves by touting the state of the American auto industry.
"When some politicians said, 'Let Detroit go bankrupt,' I placed my bets on American workers," said Obama, referencing the auto rescue in 2008. "Today GM is back on top as the number one automaker in the world. Chrysler is growing faster than any other car company. Ford is investing billions in plants and factories all across America, bringing thousands of jobs home. 200,000 new jobs over the last two and half years - the American auto industry is back."
What do the people of New Baltimore and Chesterfield Township—people in the heart of Automation Alley—think? Did Obama’s policies bring back the auto industry? Will it affect your vote in November?

Yes he brought back the American car companys, but I wish the bank bail outs would have been held to the same payback expectations.

I believe that Pres Obama made the right decision to bail out General Motors and Chrysler. The economy would have been in worst shape now than it was about four years ago. Michigan survived when the auto industry was saved and back in the right direction.

Former FDIC head Sheila Bair wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post about fixing income inequality with huge interest free loans for all Americans to illustrate the absurdity of what was done with the big Wall Street banks after the financial collapse.

Are you concerned about growing income inequality in America? Are you resentful of all that wealth concentrated in the 1 percent? I’ve got the perfect solution, a modest proposal that involves just a small adjustment in the Federal Reserve’s easy monetary policy. Best of all, it will mean that none of us have to work for a living anymore.
For several years now, the Fed has been making money available to the financial sector at near-zero interest rates. Big banks and hedge funds, among others, have taken this cheap money and invested it in securities with high yields. This type of profit-making, called the “carry trade,” has been enormously profitable for them. So why not let everyone participate?

Obama did not "save" the auto companies. It's another one of his smoke & mirror gambits to strengthen his political base i.e. the union workers. It's curious how he then exempted several of employers at the union level from having to buy into his Obamacare laws (oh yeah, along with Federal government officials & employees).

I completely agree with this concerned citizen. Nothing but smoke & mirrors. Of which Obama knows how to do best!!!

I don't believe that President Obama or any single person "saved" the auto industry. But the assistance given the industry was the right thing to do in order to save a vital part of the economy. The economic collapse that led to the bankruptcy of GM and Chrysler was created by a collective set of circumstances with plenty of people and organizations who we could blame. I have come to accept that short term profitability and individual self interest were placed ahead of long term fiscal viability which in turn led to the inability of the industry to weather the recession. President Obama inherited a mess and has done his best to find answers to tough questions and follow through with appropriate actions. The economic chaos was decades in the making and will not be corrected with some master plan from a pundit who claims to have the answers simply because he was a business executive. We need leaders with courage, intergrity and wisdom. I think we have one in office and we should quit trying to find fault through "gotcha" journalism. By the way, I am a 63 year old retired white male with no politcal agenda. Just another American trying to get by and leave a decent world to my grandkids.

Seriously do people not research what they type? Those were one year waivers. Find out why. Yes we are an uneducated country.

Sadly, most of the uneducated will vote for Obama. He basically had no experience managing anything, except corrupt radical organizations like Acorn. His attempts to divide and conquer our country is working,to a point. He has no record to run on (except for failures like the stimulus waste or failing to pass a budget for 3 years), so he is attacking the wealthy as a diversion. Guess what? The wealthy got that way by education & hard work. They invest $$ in our country, in our businesses, in our stock market. What do the entitled invest in? Seriously, have you noticed the National Debt lately? I know Obama is not responsible for the entire debt, but he has done nothing to curb it, in fact, under his watch, the debt has grown larger, faster than any previous administration. This Country was founded on principles of freedoms and rights, where every person had a chance to succeed in life, whether through education, or dedication in the workplace. I ask you, what happened to "THAT" America?
