ACO Home, Garden & Hardware plans to shut down under-performing stores in the region.
ACO Home, Garden & Hardware plans to close 14 local stores, including the one at 34800 23 Mile in New Baltimore. Michigan's largest independent hardware retailer announced Thursday that the plan to shut down the under-performing stores aims to "improve and strengthen the company’s financial performance." “To ensure our long term growth and sustainability, we must always strive to manage our costs and allocate resources to areas of our business that make a meaningful contribution to our financial performance," President and CEO Dick Snyder said in a news release. Henry Ford board members voted against the multi-billion-dollar deal Tuesday afternoon.
The Beaumont and Henry Ford health systems merger has been called off after "different perspectives" emerged about the $6.4-billion deal. Henry Ford board of trustees' decision Tuesday followed six months of due diligence discussions involving hundreds of Beaumont and Henry Ford team members, according to Beaumont. “We have benefited greatly from our merger discussions and have great respect for our colleagues at Henry Ford,” said Gene Michalski, president and CEO, Beaumont Health System. “However, we found through our discussions that we are not aligned on how to achieve our vision for a model health system due to differences in our structures and business models.” In a letter to employees, Henry Ford CEO Nancy Schlichting wrote the …

Motor City Comic Con, Michigan’s original comic convention, celebrated its 24th anniversary Friday to Sunday at Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. Attendees were absorbed into comic culture when seeing and meeting comic icons, shopping for comic merchandise and checking out what's new in the artist alley. The crew at Clinton Township's Palm Palace have added a new dessert option just in time for summer. Mediterranean ice cream, which is eaten around the world and sometimes is called dondurma or kaimaki, is now being offered locally. What makes Mediterranean ice cream different than any other frozen treat? "Mediterranean ice cream is made with all fresh ingredients," the company wrote in its blog post on Patch. "The three flavors available at Palm Palace are made with real mangoes and strawberries and crushed pistachios, not artificial flavors and extracts. It’s also made with milk and not cream."
