Free Fishing This Weekend
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is waiving fishing license fees this weekend.
Michigan residents, and anglers from out-of-state, can take part in free fishing on both inland lakes and the Great Lakes this weekend.
All fishing regulations will still apply, the DNR reports, including the use of salmon eggs or minnows for bait in some waters. This is part of a viral hemorrhagic septicemia (VHS).
For more information about the Free Fishing Weekend, and events around the state in conjunction with the weekend, visit the DNR website.
More About Lakeside Fishing Shop
Lakeside is a niche sports shop on Jefferson Ave for anyone who fishes. One can get a rod, reel and license in one visit, as well as tackle and maps to navigate Lake St. Clair, the nearest water body. Salespeople at the shop are very friendly. Lakeside Fishing also puts together a fishing report at 586-777-7008 that includes information about in-store specials and local events.
Online orders are taken 24/7 via the shop's website. Parking is limited and it can be dangerous to back out of the lot. The lot is small and traffic is heavy because of a sports bar across the street.
