7 Things To Do With Your Kids During Thanksgiving Vacation

If Black Friday isn't your thing, here are seven activities you can do as a family in and around Chesterfield Township.

Once the tryptophan wears off from the Thanksgiving turkey, the kids will need a distraction. Here are seven activities you can enjoy as a family, or as a means to gain a few extra hours of kid-less holiday shopping.

Friday Only: The Mount Clemens Santa Parade starts at 10 a.m., Nov. 23, at Main Street and Church in Mount Clemens. Parking is free.

1. Movies

Catch a kid-friendly film like Life of Pi or Rise of the Guardians at MJR Partridge Creek or MJR Chesterfield Crossing.

Price: If you catch a show before noon Friday-Sunday, you only pay $4.50. Matinee shows – noon to 6 p.m. – are only $5.

2. Indoor Waterpark

The Macomb Township Recreation Center's Aquatic Center is the closest thing in this area has to an indoor waterpark. Life guards are always on duty, so whether patrons are using the water slide, play structure, lazy river, hot tub, log roll or feature pool for lap swimming, safety is a priority. Check here for aquatic center hours.

Price: Use of the pool is included in rec center membership. All-day passes can be purchased for $5 by residents and $10 by non-residents. Children under 3 are free. The all-day pass buys access to all areas of the rec center and can be used for multiple same-day visits.

3. Ice Skating

Both Suburban Ice Macomb on 25 Mile Road and the Mount Clemens Ice Arena on Groesbeck offer open skating. Check the Suburban Ice and Mount Clemens websites for daily times.

Price: Suburban Ice – adult (13+), $5; child/seniors (12 and under), $4; skate rental, $3; Mount Clemens – adult, $5; student/youth/seniors, $4.50; skate rental, $3

4. Get Active

Joe Dumars' Fieldhouse in Shelby Township offers dozens of activities from arcade games and laser tag, to miniature golf and the climbing wall.

Price: Adventure packs, featuring a combination of activities and gaming tokens, can be purchased for $10-20.

5. Roller Skating

The New Rink in Shelby Township offers special Thanksgiving skate times Nov. 23, 1-4 p.m.

Sports Forum in Clinton Township offers open skate Friday nights from 8 to 11 p.m. and family skates on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Price: The New Rink admission, $6; $2 skate rental; $4 blades rental. Sports Forum admission, $5; $2 skate rental; $3 blades.

6. Bowling

STRIKE! Polish up on your bowling skills with open bowling at Imperial Lanes, Kingswood Lanes Bowling Center or Shelby Lanes. Check the Imperial Lanes, Kingwood or Shelby Lane's websites for open bowling times. Or, spend the day at Premier Lanes on 23 Mile in Chesterfield, where you can bowl or play games in the arcade room. For more information, call 586-725-2228.

7. Laser Tag

Who doesn't want a chance to shoot a laser at one's sibling or parent? Laser Edge in Clinton Township is open six days a week and features an arcade.

Price: One game, $7; two games, $13; three games, $16
