Bites Nearby: Poncho's
A family-owned Tex-Mex restaurant, Poncho's has been serving the New Baltimore area for years.
You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Chesterfield/New Baltimore Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:
Overview: A small, unassuming place serving a straightforward Tex Mex menu. The incredibly nice waitstaff is always willing to help with questions or concerns. One of the area's most popular restaurants, there can sometimes be a wait on weekend evenings.

Decor: Rustic and casual. Some kitschy faux Mexican memorabila graces the walls along with a statue or two. Elegance is not important in casual dining. This is not a bad thing. The overall look of the place is clean and festive.
Drinks: Full bar is available with margaritas being the drink of choice. Corona and other Mexican lagers are available if beer is what you crave.
Appetizers: Botana (starting at $6.50) is the vegetarian version of nachos. Rather than meat, corn tortilla chips are covered with beans, cheese, green peppers, onions, tomatoes, olives and avocados. Not a health food by any means, the vegetables on top make the onslaught of meat to come a little less overwhelming. Guacamole, quesadillas and nachos are available as well. As are more American apps such as Ranch Mushrooms and wing dings.
Entrees: Ask any regular customer and they'll tell you Poncho's is known for their tacos. Available ala carte (starting at $2.35), in combinations, or as a three taco dinner, the soft shell tacos are filled with beef, lettuce, tomato and cheese. Traditional Tex Mex meals are available, too. Chilaquiles ($6.00) are corn tortillas scrambled with eggs, onions, tomatoes, cheese and green peppers. Legend has it that this dish cures hangovers along with menudo, a stew made with tripe. Menudo is on Poncho's menu as well, but cow stomach is a harder sell than scrambled eggs.

Sides: All dinners are served with nacho chips and salsa, rice and beans. French fries are available, but why get regular fries when Spanish fries ($2.75) are on the menu? Spanish fries are slathered in ranchero sauce and cheese. A spicy, smoky alternative to boring old fries.
Don't Miss: Tacos! It's what made Poncho's famous.
