Happening This Week: History Comes to Life, Making a Difference and More

Whether you want a glimpse into pioneer or Victorian times or simply feel like doing some good, here are suggestions to plan your week.

Where/When: , 5:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 30.
Why Go: New Baltimore Parks & Recreation is organizing a Princess for a Day event, where you and your little princess can help another young girl feel a bit like royalty. Girls 5-10 will enjoy an evening of making crafts and cards for Haitian girls, hair and nails makeovers, goodie bags, a magic show, a walk down the runway plus refreshments and appetizers. Guests are also asked to bring a gently used pair of tennis shoes, sandals or flip-flops, which will be sent to children in need in Haiti.
Pricing: $20 per child. For more information, contact the Recreation Center at 586-725-0291.

Where/When: Mount Clemens Farmers Market, 141 North River Road; 8 a.m. until sold out, Oct. 1.
Why Go: Mount Clemens Farmers Market holds its Apple Fest today, with free apple cider and donuts (while supplies last), plus contests prizes and more. Plus it's the perfect time to stock up on in-season goodies.

Where/When: Algonac State Park, 8732 River Road, Algonac; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 1, and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 2.
Why Go: See the 18th century brought to life as the Algonac Historical Encampment parks it for two days at Algonac State Park. See how the European settlers and Native Americans lived as reenactors clad in period costumes demonstrate the era's way of life via crafts, chores, games, music, warfare and more. For an old-fashioned touch, an antique tractor will pull a wagon to tote guests to and from camp.
Pricing: Free if you have a State Parks pass; otherwise it's $5 per person or $2 for kids 12 and younger.
