Polar Bear Plunge, Other Events Slated for Winterfest

Proceeds from the family-friendly Winterfest will help build a new skateboard park.

Brrrr. It takes a special kind of community spirit to willingly jump into freezing Anchor Bay waters, but New Baltimore residents have that and they’ll be jumping into the frigid drink for a good cause at Winterfest.

The Polar Bear Plunge is one of several events at the annual celebration Jan. 24-26. This is the 20th year the New Baltimore Lions Club has sponsored the event. Proceeds from this year’s Winterfest celebration will be earmarked for a new skateboard park at Maynard “Red” Aurand Memorial Park, 34900 Huntley Drive.

Events include a minnow race for kids and adults, a kids party, chili cook-off, pancake breakfast, music and other family-friendly events. But the big event is the Polar Bear Plunge, which takes place at 2 p.m. Sunday.
