White Rabbits and Epic Detours Are on the Library Shelves

Think spring and drop by MacDonald Public Library in New Baltimore for a good read.

The kids will delight in the new books on the shelves of the Reading Tree in the center of the children's section of . The shelves are full of new stories by some of our favorite children’s book authors and illustrators.

Topping this list is a new picture book, Little White Rabbit by Kevin Henkes. This is the story of a little white rabbit with a big imagination that wonders what it would be like to be something or do something else. The illustrations bring rabbit’s colorful imagination and curiosity to life for the reader. The illustrations in Little White Rabbit will make this a favorite spring story for years to come.

Author and illustrator Melanie Watt’s new picture book You’re Finally Here! is another great children’s picture book. The main character, Bunny, is overjoyed and annoyed at the reader’s arrival. That's because the reader is late, leaving Bunny to cleverly express what it is like to be kept waiting.  When Bunny has been reassured the reader is here to stay, there is an interesting twist. Bunny’s tale is another wonderfully illustrated picture book that will make the kids list of fun reads for years to come.

Another newly released children’s picture book that will be a great addition to any preschooler’s reading list is called Cat Secrets, written and illustrated by Jef Czekaj. This book engages young readers before they even turn the first page to meet the main character, Cat. The story begins with Cat telling the reader, “I’m sorry, this book is not for you. This book is for cats only. What’s that you say? You ARE a cat? Okay, prove it!”

Cat engages the reader page after page by requesting proof that the reader is in fact a cat. Children will find they cannot help but have fun responding to the requests and acting out Cat's challenges. Readers who like this book will want to read Mo Willems' stories of Piggy and Elephant.
