Willy & Babbish is Hung Up on New Baltimore

The women's boutique opened this month on Washington Street in the city's downtown.

Female shoppers who prefer boutiques over big department stores have a new reason to come to downtown New Baltimore.

Willy & Babbish Boutique, 51034 Washington Street, opened recently in the historic downtown, catering to women seeking accessories, clothes and home products. Fittingly for the shop near Anchor Bay, nautical-inspired merchandise is also on the rack, according to store owners and sisters Carrie and Jill Leger.

The owners selected New Baltimore because they wanted shoppers to feel "like they were on a weekend getaway, exploring a whimsical little shop in some quaint up north town, without having to leave their backyard," Carrie Leger said.

"Downtown New Baltimore seemed to be the perfect fit. It has the charm of a small beach-front community on the edge of a bustling Macomb County. With new businesses opening, streetscape updates planned, the addition of a public harbor and kayak rentals, and many upcoming public events, New Baltimore is a growing community and we wanted to be a part of this growth," said Leger, noting that neighboring businesses and residents have been welcoming.
