Winterfest Schedule for Saturday

Day Two of the New Baltimore Winterfest includes a kids party and chili cookoff.

We're smack dab in the middle of the New Baltimore Lions' 19th annual Winterfest. Downtown is all over the "Freezin' for a Reason" theme, all to give Lions-backed charities a boost, including the New Baltimore Goodfellows and the food pantries at and North Shore Church. The Lions also buy eyeglasses for local children and adults in need.

The festival continues all day Saturday (and into the evening). Highlights include:

  • 10 a.m.: The International Fishing Tournament starts, ending 3 p.m. Sunday. Competitors may drop their line at any fishing location on Anchor Bay. Fishing licenses are required to participate. Registration forms are available at bait shops in the Anchor Bay area, including M & M Outdoors, 35740 Green St., in New Baltimore, and , 45200 Jefferson Ave., Chesterfield Township.
  • Noon-2 p.m.: The children's party will be held at the . A circus theme is planned, and kids are invited to wear a costume. There will be games to play, clowns to clown around with, plus games and prizes. Lunch will also be served: Hot dogs, chips and beverages, all of it free for kids 10 and younger. New Baltimore-Chesterfield Patch will be at the party, too, to hand out a limited amount of Patch goodies.
  • 5:30 p.m.: The festival tent opens; admission is $5. The chili cookoff kicks off at 6 p.m. There, contestants will vie for assorted honors, including people's choice, best name, mayor's pick, best decorated area and more.  Some of those chilis get pretty spicy, so quench your thirst with coffee, beer, pop or water; all will be available for purchase.
