Algonac Pickerel Tournament

It's time for the Algonac Lions Club 2011 Pickerel Tournament in downtown Algonac, from June 30-July 4. And even though it's referred to as a fishing tournament, there's a whole lot more happening over these four days.

The fun kicks off at 5 p.m. today. Here's a rundown of the fun:

  • 5 p.m.: Tournament opens. Fishing contest begins.
  • 5 p.m.-dusk: Arts and crafts show at Riverfront Park.
  • 5-10 p.m.: Bingo at Riverfront Park, and the Vegas Room opens at St. Catherine's.
  • 6-11 p.m.: Beer tent opens at St. Catherine's, with live entertainment.
  • 6 p.m.: Algonac Lioness Kids Parade, at Michigan and M-29.
  • 6:30 p.m.: Prizes for Kids Parade announced, at Main Stage.
  • 7 p.m.: Queen contestants give speeches, Main Stage.
  • 7 p.m.: Poker Tournament at Vegas Room, St. Catherine's.
  • 11 p.m.: Midway closes.

And that's only day one. Throughout the festival there will be arts and crafts, bingo, beer tent, a carnival, a beauty contest, live music, eating contests, karaoke competitions, a 10K run/5K run and walk at Algonac High School and much more.

No Fourth of July weekend is complete without fireworks, and those will be fired off at dusk on July 2 along the riverfront. And you can't celebrate without a parade either. That kicks off at 2 p.m. July 3.
