It's Time for the Bay-Rama Fishfly Festival

Downtown New Baltimore is the place to be this long weekend, as the 47th Bay-Rama Fishfly Festival lands in town this week, from June 22-27, in downtown New Baltimore, with a slew of fun planned.

Wednesday, June 22:

The festival kicks off at 3 p.m. and the carnival  Midway opens. Discounts are available from the festival program or online at the festival website, www.bay-rama.com.

Rosco the Clown will peform and entertain from 3-8 p.m., and various children's activities are planned throughout the afternoon, including the Dig for Silver at 4 p.m. and the Ping Pong Drop at 5 p.m., plus there will be the "Chicken Chucken" contests for both youngsters and adult, starting at 7 p.m.

From 6-11 p.m. the band NI4NI performs rock music.

At 6:30 p.m. the Queen's Pageant will be held in the Festival Tent, as the new Miss Bay-Rama gets crowned this evening.

Thursday, June 23:

At noon the Anchor Bay Chamber of Commerce presents Business by the Bay, in Burke Park. Members pay $15 to hear guest speaker Macomb County Commissioner Kathy Vosburg and enjoy lunch.

The Midway opens once again at 3 p.m., and those who love to ride can get a $20 "pay one price" wristband that lets you ride to your heart's content until 10 p.m. The Festival Tent also opens at 3 p.m. No one under age 21 allowed in after 7 p.m.

Rosco the Clown is back on the Midway from 3-8 p.m. At 4 p.m. it's time for the Bubble Gum Blowing Contest, for ages 6-12, and at 5 p.m. the Wrap Your Mummy competition begins, for ages 6-10.

New Baltimore's got talent, so stop by the Talent Showcase from 6-8 p.m., and see "Art in Motion" peform at 7 p.m., featuring the Richmond Dance Academy.

From 8 p.m.-12:30 a.m. "Remedy of Detroit" performs. They're a female-fronted rock band featuring electric violins who play classic rock and dance tunes. No one under 21 after 7 p.m. $1 cover.

At dusk, it's time for the Grand High Altitude Fireworks. (If it rains, the blowout is postponed until Friday night.)

Friday, June 24

The Midway opens at 3 p.m., with the "pay one price" wristband option still in effect. The Festival Tent also opens at 3 p.m.

Rosco the Clown is back from 3-8 p.m. on the Midway.

At 4 p.m. it's time for the Pie-Eating Contest, with divisions for age 7 to adult. Arrive hungry. And if pie isn't your thing, how about the Watermelon-Eating Contest at 5 p.m., for ages 7 to adult as well. If food frenzies are a no-go, how about the Hula Hoop Contest at 6 p.m., open to all ages.

At 6 p.m. the Talent Showcase opens once again. Enjoy free entertainment by the "Northside Church" from 7-8 p.m., where they'll perform with puppets.

At 8 p.m. Monkey Grinder rocks the stage with its mix of rock, hip-hop, country and the classics. No one under 21 after 7 p.m. in the Festival Tent. $1 cover.

Saturday, June 25

It's Kids Day. A Petting Farm will be set up from noon-2 p.m. and kids 12 and under will have a shot at winning one boy's and one girl's bicycle in the Bike Raffle. Plus the New Baltimore Police Department's K-9 Unit will be there, so kids and grownups alike can meet the police dogs.

The Midway and Festival Tent open at noon.

Rosco will perform from noon-8 p.m. on the Midway.

More food challenges are in the works, with a Pizza-Eating Contest starting at 2 p.m., for ages 7 and up.

From 3-7 p.m. husband and wife duo "On Common Ground" play family-friendly music.

The Cardboard Boat Regatta is today. At 2:30 p.m. registration begins. (Forms are also available at www.bay-rama.com.) Boat building begins at 3 p.m. in Burke Park. Registration fee is $10 per boat and includes cardboard, one roll of duct tape and a knife. All boats must be built on site that day. Various prizes are available, from first to cross the finish line to the Titanic (the first to sink). The race begins at 4:30 p.m.

From 5:15-8 p.m. it's time for the Talent Showcase once again, featuring the Matrix Magic Show, at 5:15 p.m., and bellydance troupe Czigany World Fusion Dance takes over the stage at 6:30 p.m.

From 8 p.m.-12:30 a.m. Planet of Fun peforms rock in the Festival Tent. No one under 21 after 7 p.m. $1 cover.

Sunday, June 26

It's the final day for the Fishfly Festival but there's still plenty of fun to be had.

From 9-11:30 a.m. the Queen's Breakfast will be served at . Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children 5-12 and free for kids under 5. There, you'll meet Miss Bay-Rama 2011 and her court.

The Midway opens for its final day at noon. Pay-one-price wristbands are still for sale, good until 9 p.m. The Festival Tent opens at noon, t00. Rosco the Clown is back from 1-8 p.m. on the Midway.

The Bay-Rama Spectacular Parade, sponsored by Meijer, starts at 1 p.m. After the parade, awards, prizes and trophies will be handed out.

"On Common Ground" performs its family friendly music once again, from 3-8 p.m. in the Festival Tent.

And at 9 p.m. the fun is done, as the Midway and Festival Tent close for 2011.
