Happening This Week: Civil War Days, Girls Night Out, Pumpkin-Painting and More

Why Go: Chesterfield Public Library is offering its annual pumpkin-painting program for kids in grades one through five. It's one of the "4:30 Funtime" programs the library has regularly going on. Event is free, but registration is required. To sign up, visit the library, call 586-598-4900, or go online at www.chelibrary.org.

Why Go: The Lego Club for kids in grade kindergarten through second grade meets the first Thursday monthly at MacDonald Public Library.

Where/When: , 6:30 p.m. Oct. 6.

Why Go: Award-winning historian Rich Gonyeau will be at Chesterfield Township Library to give a presentation on the history of New Baltimore, Chesterfield and the immediate area, as part of the library’s monthly series of programs titled “A Little Bit of History.” Registration is requested, but drop-ins are welcome.

Where/When: , 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Oct. 7.

Why Go: The Chesterfield Senior Center holds a Fall Health Festival, with a variety of free health tests, outdated medication disposal, information and a flu vaccine clinic.

Where/When: , 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct 8 and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 9.

Why Go: Wolcott Mill comes alive with the past this weekend with two days of Civil War reenactments. See soldiers clash and perform drills, sutlers sell wares, crafts being made, chores performed, hear music and more. Kids will learn hands-on lessons by joining a military drill, making a craft or attending a school lesson, 19th-century style. There will also be a reenactment of the Battle of Bull Run at 2 p.m. both days. 
To get into the spirit of things, visitors can sign up for the  Saturday night. It starts at 7 p.m. and guests will be guided by an apparition through the era's turbulent past. It's not recommended for children under age 6. 

Pricing: $3 for adults, $1 for children to attend the Skirmish. The candlelight tour costs $6.

Where/When: Chesterfield Crossing Cinemas, Oct. 8 and 9.

Why Go: MJR's Chesterfield Crossing Cinemas offers its free Fall Children's Film Festival every Saturday and Sunday in October. This weekend's movie is Judy Moody, rated PG.

Pricing: Kids 12 and under get in free; parents pay $1. Show times will be announced the Wednesday prior. Visit here for the schedule. No advance tickets will be sold; everything's on a first-come, first-served basis.

Where/When: , 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 7 and 8, or 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 9.

Why Go: Shop for bargains, from clothing to accessories, toys to books, housewares to electronics, crafts and linens, furniture, baked goods and plenty more.  

Pricing: $2 early bird admission on Friday at 9:30 a.m., or $1 admission otherwise. Sunday is half-price day. 

Where/When: , 8 p.m. Oct. 7.

Why Go: Rosie O'Grady's hosts Girls Night Out, with food, drinks, shopping fun and more. Come hungry or hungry to shop, as eight vendors will be peddling jewelry, treats and more.

Pricing: No admission. 

Where/When: , 8 a.m.-noon Oct. 9.

Why Go: The fire department will be flipping flapjacks for Fire Prevention Week. Monies raised will benefit area charities.
