Happening This Week: Sterlingfest, Country Fairs and Library Fun

Patch highlights events in the area for you to plan your social calendar.

The library always has something to entertain all ages. Both libraries have fun planned for youngsters this week, from art to magic. Read on:


Where/When: 6-7:30 p.m. July 26.
Why Go: Chesterfield Township Library has a teen summer reading program under way called "You Are Here! Where Do You Want to Go?" Today's theme is "Elsewhere: Worldwide Crafts," where teens in grades six through 12 can explore other cultures creatively.
Pricing: Free, but be sure to register, either in person at the library, by phone at 586-598-4900 or online at www.chelibrary.org.


Where/When: 2 and 3:30 p.m. July 26 (for kids in grades K-2) and 3:30 p.m. July 27.
Why Go: MacDonald Public Library is taking youngsters "Around the World" through reading. This week everyone will venture over to merry old England.
Pricing: Free.

Where/When: 6-7 p.m. July 27.
Why Go: On July 27 kids can enjoy a wildlife safari courtesy of Nelson, "The Animal Guy." He'll be bringing a bunch of critters from around the globe. Registration is requested, but drop-ins will be welcome.

Where/When: 11 a.m. July 29.
Why Go: MacDonald Public Library is holding a Create Your Own ATCs class for teens. What are ATCs, you may ask. ATCs are Artist Trading Cards, or miniature works of art the same size as a baseball card. The movement started in Switzerland, and your ATC can feature colored-pencil drawings, paints or more. Then exchange your mini masterpiece with fellow artists.
Pricing: Free. Feel free to bring your own supplies, though the library will have some materials to work with as well.

Where/When: Goodells County Park, 8345 County Park Drive, Goodells July 25-30.
Why Go: The fair is in town, so drive a bit north and enjoy carnival rides, live entertainment, food, animal judging contests, petting zoos, games, demonstrations and more.
Pricing: Most events are free.


Where/When: Dodge Park & Utica area in Sterling Heights July 28-30.
Why Go: Enjoy three days of fun at Sterlingfest. Live entertainment from rock to jazz to magic is featured on four stages. There will be a carnival midway, food vendors, art for sale and much more.
Pricing: Festival is free to attend.

CONCERTS IN THE CLEM
Where/When: Downtown Mount Clemens July 29.
Why Go: Enjoy two free concerts in downtown Mount Clemens. The Bud Light Riversight & Sound Concert Series kicks off at 7:30 p.m. with The Forbes Brothers performing their blend of country, rock, soul, blues and hip-hop at the at Northbound Gratiot and Crocker. Or enjoy a later concert that kicks off at 9:30 p.m. at the Fountain Stage at Macomb Place and Pine, with performing blues.
