Summer Salute Brings Family Fun to Township Grounds

Plan your social calendar this week with these nearby events.


Where/When:; 11 a.m.-3 p.m. June 18.
Why Go: It's time for free family fun with Chesterfield Township's Summer Salute. Bring the whole gang to the municipal offices for a memorable afternoon, including a petting farm, inflatables, a miniature fire truck ride, airbrush tattoos, crafts, Tiny the Clown, K-9 Unit and doing demos and the Historical Village will also be open, so families can visit the Weller School House, log cabin, cobbler and blacksmith shops.
Pricing: Free.


Where/When: ; 6-7:30 p.m. June 14.
Why Go: Teens can get a ticket away from the every day, as Chesterfield Township Library holds its Teen Summer Reading Kickoff Party. Dress up in costume reflecting a place, time, etc., that you'd like to visit and visit the library for snacks, games and a photo shoot. Then sign up for the summer reading program where you can win prizes.
Then on June 15, from 11 a.m.-noon, kids can discover , learning the background of Marimbas and Xylophones, and hear music from around the world.

Where/When: Gibraltar Trade Center North, 237 N. River Road, Mount Clemens; 10 a.m.-3 p.m. June 17.
Why Go: The Senior Fun Festival comes to Gibraltar Trade Center North. The event, sponsored by Macomb County Senior Citizen Services, includes a full day of information and entertainment, all for free. Those who attend will enjoy dancing, live music by Moose and Da Sharks, bingo, health screenings, demonstrations, meet county and government officials, and browse hundreds of vendors offering products and services.
Pricing: Free. Gibraltar's public markets open at noon, so everyone is welcome to stick around and lunch at the food court (it's buy your own) and shop the markets. For more on the festival, contact the MCSCS at 586-469-6313.

Where/When: New York New York, inside; 8 p.m. June 18.
Why Go: Enjoy live jams close to home, as the Madonna Brothers, Parametric, Goon Hypnosis, and 12 Pole Creek rock the house.
Pricing: $5 cover for 21 and up, or $8 for 18-20.


Where/When:; 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. June 19.
Why Go: It's Father's Day, the perfect time for the EyesOn Design Automotive Show at Edsel & Eleanor Ford House. More than 200 vehicles, from vintage to futuristic, will be on display along the lakefront grounds.
Pricing: $20 per person at the gate. Children 12 and under will be admitted free with an adult. Event benefits the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology and research.

Why Go: Strike a pose with yoga in the park, every Sunday through September. Santosha Yoga is the sponsor, and the is the host. Dress comfortably, bring a mat and large towel or blanket, plus water to drink.
