Chesterfield Industrial Company Says Nearly 70 Additional Jobs, Millions in New Business Expected

Chesterfield Township Board of Trustees granted Global Enterprises a 10-year tax exemption at the Monday night meeting.

A Chesterfield Township plant that supplies automotive interiors to the manufacturing industry says it expects to add nearly 70 jobs and will bring in about $20-25 million in new business.

at 50450 E. Russell Schmidt Boulevard told the Chesterfield Township Board of Trustees during a public hearing Monday night it expects major growth as demand has picked up recently in the auto industry.

After hearing from representatives for the company and Macomb County Planning and Economic Development Department, the township board unanimously approved a 10-year tax exemption for Global Enterprise and said the industrial facility can return back when the decade-long exemption expires to seek another two-year tax break.

The company said, although there have been offers to move out of state, it would like to remain in the township, bringing at least 66 new jobs to its total staff of 210. It also plans to section off a portion of the plant and acquire more machinery and equipment to increase productive capacity--a $4.3-million investment. Therefore the owner "will be obligated to pay all ad valorem taxes imposed theron," according to the agenda resolution.

The Industrial Facilities Exemption Certificate was enacted in 1974 to keep manufacturers in the state by means of lower taxes, thus spurring job growth, township Supervisor Michael Lovelock said.
