Construction Underway for New Credit Union

Port Huron-based E & A Credit Union is expected to open before the end of the year, according to New Baltimore city officials.

A Port Huron-based credit union is under construction at Main and Green streets, bringing a $760,000 investment to New Baltimore, according to the city.

Development of E & A Credit Union at 35600 Main Street is expected to finish before the end of the year. The 3,520-square-foot building with drive-thru windows sits on the former Gendernalik Funeral parcel. The funeral home was torn down in 2007 when the business relocated to 35259 23 Mile. After the funeral home left the land almost became a Burger King restaurant, but the fast-food chain lost its appetite for development, New Baltimore Building Official Greg Nikkel said.

Anchorville-based Barber-McCalpin Associates is the credit union's architect and Thompson-Phelan Group Inc., which did the expansion and renovation work at and also is out of Anchorville, serves as developer.
