Ground Turkey Pulled From Local Shelves After National Recall Announced

Meijer in Chesterfield Township pulled ground turkey from the shelves in accordance with a recall due to a salmonella outbreak.

In accordance with the recall of 36 million pounds of Cargill ground turkey, a Chesterfield Township grocery store pulled the potentially tainted meat from the shelves Wednesday evening.

A store official at on 23 Mile and Gratiot said all affected ground turkey products were removed around 6:30 p.m.

A manager at on 23 Mile in Chesterfield deferred inquires to the chain's Novi office, where no one could immediately be reached.

On Wednesday, the United States Department of Agriculture announced a recall of ground turkey from the large Minnesota-based meat processing company Cargill. The recall is connected to a salmonella outbreak that caused at least 76 illnesses and one death.

According to a Fox News report, California state health officials said Tuesday the fatality was in Sacramento County. The same strain of the disease made 76 people in 26 states, including Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee, sick.
