Job Hunting Advice: Fine Tune Your Computer Skills

Chesterfield Township Library regularly offers career-building tips and resources.

Something that can derail a job search is discovering that you do not have the knowledge or experience in using common computer software programs.

The has resources--online and in print and DVD format--to assist job hunters in learning or fine tuning skills in using computer software required for many positions in the current job market.  

Along with books and DVDs in the library that explain how to use popular computer software including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Publisher, and Powerpoint, the library also provides access to a website --Learning Express Library--that offers excellent tutorial courses on these software programs.

The Learning Express Library also offers great tutorial courses that explain what the Internet is and how to find information surfing the net, as well as courses that detail the history of computers and how they are used. Other free courses available through Learning Express Library provide information on how to use social networking to enhance your job searching.

People can use the Learning Express Library website in the library or at home for free after registering on the website at the library.

About the library

To find out more about print, online, and other resources available to research job listings, potential careers, and employers, visit the Chesterfield Township Library, call 586-598-4900, or go online at www.chelibrary.org.

The Chesterfield Township Library is located at 50560 Patricia Avenue off Chesterfield Road in the Gratiot and 23 Mile Road area.  The library is open 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Fridays, and from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. The library will close on Saturdays during July and August and on Sept. 1, but will resume Saturday hours beginning Sept. 8, 2012.
