Despite slow progress, is expected to build a second store in Chesterfield Township, the land owner said Wednesday.
"Walmart has an option on the land," said Anthony Marrocco, who also serves as Macomb County Public Works Commissioner.
Marrocco says that construction on the property at 23 Mile Road next to Brothers Nursery & Supply has likely not started because of the slow economy. He does, however, anticipate the chain to build a Supercenter store in the future. A ground-breaking date has not been set.
According to Supervisor Michael Lovelock, the company previously filed for extensions on site plans but they will soon expire. It has yet to submit further documents.
Marrocco said he is fine adhering to Walmart's timetable and does not plan to pursue another business on the vacant parcel. The company did not respond for comment. An existing Walmart Supercenter is off Hall Road and I-94 in Chesterfield Township.
