Visions for Vacancies: What Do You Want to Replace Former Outback Steakhouse?

Patch asks readers to share their hopes for vacancies in Chesterfield and New Baltimore.

You've passed them frequently. You remembered when they were bustling retail centers. Perhaps, you shopped or dined in them and wished something else would take their places.

In our weekly Visions for Vacancies feature, readers become pseudo city planners by offering an opportunity to share dreams for empty storefronts.

Our highlighted vacancy is the former Outback Steakhouse on 23 Mile east of Gratiot. In June 2011, the Chesterfield Township Board of Trustees approved a request from Grand Azteca VII LLC for a new Class C liquor license because it announced plans to open in the former steakhouse space. However, as of Tuesday, the restaurant didn't have plans submitted to the township to occupy the space more than a year later, according to Chesterfield planning and building officials.
