Visions for Vacancies: What Do You Want to Replace Former Sheena's Marketplace?

Patch asks readers to share their hopes for vacancies in Chesterfield and New Baltimore.

You've passed them frequently. You remembered when they were hustling retail centers. Perhaps, you shopped at them and wished something else would take their places.

In our weekly Visions for Vacancies feature, readers become pseudo city planners by offering an opportunity to share dreams for empty storefronts.

We first asked readers what they envisioned for the former Farmer Jack on 23 Mile and Gratiot in Chesterfield Township. Many readers said they would like to see a fruit market like Trader Joe's, Randazzo's Fresh Market, Whole Foods or Nino Salvaggio while some thought Costco, Barnes and Noble or even a super-sized Big Daddy's store would be good choices.

The second subject in this series is the vacant Sheena's Marketplace, formerly a  VG's Grocery store, in the Blockbuster plaza on 23 Mile in New Baltimore.

Although an undisclosed grocer from the Grosse Pointe area expressed interested in occupying the building, plans fell through due to antiquated equipment in the closed store, City Building Official Greg Nikkel said Thursday.

No other proposals are in the works for another business to settle in the large storefront, Nikkel said.

So, Patch is asking our readers--many of whom live, work and shop in this community: What would you like to see there?
