Voyageurs, Farmers Market, Yoga in Park and More

A slew of entertaining events are scheduled around town this week.


Where/When: Chesterfield Township Historical Society, 47275 Sugarbush; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. June 11; 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. June 12.
Why Go: Chesterfield Township Historical Society is offering a trip to the past as it hosts the Ste. Claire Voyageurs at its Historical Village. The village and the Voyageurs will be in full historical garb, doing live demonstrations of how people lived in the past, during Michigan's fur trade and colonial eras.
Pricing: $1 per person or $2 per family; food and drink will be sold, too.


Where/When: Downtown New Baltimore; 8 a.m.-1 p.m. June 12.
Why Go: Think globally but shop locally. Come to the New Baltimore Farmers Market this weekend for its third annual flowers and herbs bazaar. You'll be able to browse and buy from local growers and artisans, including flats of flowers, hanging baskets, herbs, vegetable plants and crafts.
Pricing: Looking is free.


After the Farmers Market, why not meander over to the beach at for an hour of free yoga, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Enjoy a good stretch and strike a pose as guides you through a series of relaxing and strengthening postures that will leave you feeling great the rest of the afternoon. Be sure to dress comfortably, bring a mat and large towel or blanket, plus water to drink. If you find you're hooked on yoga, come back each Sunday afternoon at the same time and place for your weekly free fix.

Why Go: School's out for summer and it's time to party at the Civic Club. The School's Out Teen Dance Party is a Dance Club type of party that is open to teens ages 14-18. DJ Milky Way will provide the music and entertainment, plus soft drinks and snacks will be served. And parents, never fear for your youngsters' safety: Omega Security Service will supervise.
Pricing: Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. All proceeds will be donated to the Arts Academy in the Woods.

Why Go: It's the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and they're giving a free concert at the Macomb Center of Performing Arts, with DSO Music Director Leonard Slatkin leading the orchestra in a program that should appeal to novices and classical music buffs. Enjoy hearing the works of Bach, Beethoven, Schubert and Tchaikovsky as well as Benjamin Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra. Macomb Community College Professor Philip Barrons will join the orchestra on stage to narrate this special aspect.
Pricing: Free but each order is limited to four tickets. Pick up tickets at the Macomb Center Box Office Monday-Wednesday from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. or order by phone at 586-286-2222.


Where/When: Sycamore Hills Golf Club, 48787 North Ave., Macomb Township; 11 a.m. June 10.
Why Go: It's all for(e) a good cause, as the Kiwanis Club of Utica/Shelby is organizing this fun outing at Sycamore Hills. Sign up and enjoy 18 holes, lunch, a four-man scramble, putting contest, dinner and awards.
