Construction Work Wraps Up

Road work picks back up this week.

After a brief respite from the construction blues over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, work picks back up this week all across the metropolitan Detroit region.

One ongoing project that is actually scheduled to wrap up at 5 a.m. Monday is eastbound and westbound I-696 between Van Dyke and Schoenherr, which has been undergoing periodic double lane closures.

Most of the work took place over the overnight hours. Further down, eastbound I-696 from Mound Road to Gratiot has a single right lane closure daily.

In addition, the westbound I-696 service drive from Gratiot Avenue to Mound Road has intermittent single-lane closures daily. That project is scheduled to last the majority of the summer, wrapping up in late August.

For people going to the Mount Clemens Car Cruise this weekend, there are multiple lanes closed for utility work on northbound Gratiot between Church and Cass through June 23. On the southbound side of Gratiot over the Clinton River, there is a total closure of the road for bridge replacement. A detour is posted.

Oakland County motorists have to grapple with the southbound I-75 ramp to eastbound M-59 being closed through June 20. The posted detour utilizes southbound I-75, westbound M-59 and Opdyke Road.

Shoulder and lane work on northbound I-75 between M-59 and the Oakland County line is expected to be finished at 3 p.m. Friday–so that’s a relief for some drivers.

Also in Oakland County, the Northline Road ramp to northbound I-75 is closed for reconstruction until Tuesday, when it is slated to reopen at 5 p.m.

For drivers planning on taking a weekend trip out to St. Clair County this weekend, eastbound and westbound I-69 from Riley Center Road to Burt Road will suffer from single lane closures in both directions.

Work is expected to wrap up on this project on June 13.

In addition, the Westbound I-94/I-69 Lapeer connector ramp is closed through June 10. A detour is posted.

Following is a list of other construction projects that may hamper drivers over the next few days:

• Eastbound and westbound I-94 at 11 Mile will have shoulder closures for bridgework until July 1.

• The westbound 11 Mile Road ramp to westbound I-94 is closed until June 9.

• The shoulders on eastbound and westbound I-94 from 21 Mile Road to 24 Mile Road are closed for utility work through early December.

• The westbound I-94 business loop from Ravenswood Road to M-29 is closed to through traffic. A detour is posted.

• The westbound Eight Mile Road bridge to southbound M-39 service drive is closed through late August.

• In downtown Detroit, Curtis Street over M-39 is closed for demolition and reconstruction.

• In Oakland County, eastbound Clinton River Trail, just west of M-59 to Crooks Road, is closed for bridgework until July 15.

• Northbound and southbound M-39 between M-10 and I-96 is closed for road rehabilitation through October. A detour is posted.
