Happening This Week: Festivals, Farmers Markets and More

There's plenty of summer fun to be had this week.


Where/When: Chesterfield Township Library, 6-7:45 p.m. July 11.
Why Go: If it ain't got that swing, it ain't got that thing ... Try a fun swing dance class at the library. The fundamentals of East Coast Swing will be covered. Worried you have two left feet? Never fear; no experience is needed, just the willingness to try a bit of jitterbugging.

Where/When: New Haven High School, 57700 Gratiot, New Haven; 11 a.m.-10 p.m. July 15-17.
Why Go: The Village of New Haven is holdings 3rd Annual Community Celebration Day. Visitors will be able to enjoy carnival rides all three days, a "Hometown Idol" contest on the 16th, a barbecue content, live entertainment, track and field events, fireworks and more.
Pricing: Free.

CONCERTS IN THE CLEM
Where/When: Downtown Mount Clemens, 7:30-11 p.m. July 15.
Why Go: Enjoy not one, but two outdoor concerts in downtown Mount Clemens. The first one is the Series, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. along the riverfront at Northbound Gratiot, near Crocker. Tonight's act is Jr. Walker's All-Star Band. Then at 9:30 head over to Macomb Place and Pine, to the , for Brazil & Beyond performing a Brazilian/world beat show.

Where/When: Blake's Orchard & Cider Mill, 17985 Armada Center Road, Armada; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. July 15-16.
Why Go: The Michigan Lavender Festival returns, this time in a new location as it moves to Blake's. Enjoy the shopping fun, with crafts, art, soaps, lotions and other potions; sample lavender-laced beverages and foods; take in a workshop; sign up for an art class; and much more at this fun festival.
Pricing: $5 for adults; children 12 and under get in free.

FARMERS MARKET FAMILY FUN FEST
Where/When: Mount Clemens Farmers Market, 141 N. River Road, Mount Clemens; 7 a.m.-1 p.m. July 16.
Why Go: Enjoy the pick of the local produce and fun for the whole family on this special day.

Where/When: Wolcott Mill Farm Center; 6-9 p.m. July 16.
Why Go: Step to your left, then step to your right, right on over for a night of square dancing fun at Wolcott Mill. Never fear if you're a novice; you'll learn.

Where/When: Washington & Main, New Baltimore; 8 a.m.-1 p.m. July 17.
Why Go: Get fresh and head over to the New Baltimore Farmers Market, now open for the season. Enjoy locally grown produce at the peak of ripeness, crafts, activities, entertainment and more. And while you're feeling healthy and outdoorsy, why not head over to Burke Park for a at 1:30 p.m., courtesy of Santosha Yoga.
Pricing: Free.


Where/When: Metro Beach, 1 p.m. July 17.
Why Go: It's Children's Day at the Beach, part of Children's Appreciation Day at the Metroparks. Stop at Metro Beach for magic shows, nature crafts, building sandcastles on the beach, inflatable fun, Rosco the Clown making balloon animals, and more.
