Holiday Happenings in New Baltimore

Generosity is behind many of the community's holiday events.

New Baltimore has plenty of holiday events going on this season. Read on for details:

Tree Lighting

  • Where:
  • When: 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5
  • Pricing: Free
  • Why Go: Bay-Rama invites one and all to attend the New Baltimore tree lighting and sing-along. The event includes Anchor Bay Middle Schools choirs; Mayor Larry Smith lighting the tree; Santa Claus arriving with the ; and a visit to the for hot chocolate and donut holes. And, of course, Santa will be available to hear children's wish lists. People may bring canned food donations to the ceremony, in support of St. Mary's Pantry. Boxes will be set up so guests can drop off items to help the area needy.

Wreaths Across America

  • Where: VFW Post 7573
  • When: 10:30 a.m. Dec. 10
  • Pricing: $15 per wreath to sponsor
  • Why Go: Lempke-Blackwell VFW is taking part in Wreaths Across America, an event happening at 500 sites worldwide to remember and honor veterans. There will be a small coffee hour at the post, followed by a procession to St. Mary's Cemetery, where the wreaths will be blessed and placed.

Goodfellows Dinner Dance

  • Where:
  • When: 6:30 p.m.-midnight Dec. 10
  • Pricing: $35
  • Why Go: Help make a child's Christmas a little merrier by attending the Goodfellows fundraiser, with dinner, open bar, music, prizes, silent auction and raffles. And if you can't make it that day, consider buying a copy of the Razzberry, to be sold Dec. 2 and 3, coming to an intersection near you.

Jingle Bell Run

  • Where:
  • When: 4 p.m. Dec. 11
  • Pricing: $5-$25
  • Why Go: Enjoy a 5K run or 1-mile walk, benefiting Anchor Bay High School's DECA club chapter and scholarship programs. For a peek at all the fun, visit Patch's coverage of last year's event here. You never know who'll show up or what will happen.

Believe in Christmas Musical Variety Show

  • Where:
  • When: 3 and 7 p.m. Dec. 17
  • Pricing: $10-$15
  • Why Go: "Believe in Christmas" and support the Anchor Bay Community Foundation by attending this musical variety show.

Holiday Decorating Contest

  • Where: Any home or business in New Baltimore city limits
  • When: Through the holiday season
  • What: New Baltimore Parks & Recreation is holding a holiday decorating contest, open to homes and businesses within city limits. Recreation Commission members will keep an eye out for attractively decorated houses and businesses through the season and notify winners after the holidays. Awards will be presented at the Jan. 23 City Council meeting. Home winners can win prizes from $125-$75, and the top business will win $125.
