I-94 Set to Bring Out the Annual Construction Barrels Friday

The roadwork project is set to last until late fall.

Drivers, beware: construction season is here.

On April 20, resurfacing on I-94 will begin in the cities of Chesterfield Township and New Baltimore.

The $16 million roadwork will take place on the freeway stretch between 23 Mile and County Line Roads, according to a press release from MDOT.

You might be able to avoid a bit of a headache this time around though, as two lanes of traffic will be open in each direction during peak travel times, with commercial vehicles being directed to use the left lane for safety reasons.

Nightly closures are possible, occuring between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., and traffic may also be reduced to a single lane on the weekends.

The project, which includes the widening of the eastbound I-94 exit ramp to 23 Mile Road, guardrail installation and the extension of select entrance ramps, is expected to be completed in late October.
