On May 8th, 1964 a devastating tornado struck Chesterfield Twp. 13 people were killed, hundreds more were injured and a great many homes and businesses were destroyed. In remembrance of this tragic event, the Chesterfield Historical Society is planning a 50th remembrance event. A video (DVD) presentation with interviews with those who were in the tornado will be shown. Scores of photographs of the devastation will also be on the video presentation. Dignitaries from the State and community will be on hand, as well as many displays in remembrance of this event. A solemn bell ringing ceremony in remembrance of the 13 people who lost their lives is planned.
