Santa Brings Cheer to New Baltimore Tree-Lighting

The Christmas spirit took over downtown New Baltimore.

Santa's magic spread across New Baltimore Monday night during the annual Christmas tree-lighting ceremony.

Unseasonably warm December weather helped lure hundreds of holiday revelers to Washington Street for the event. John Dupray of Bay-Rama and Mayor Larry Smith spoke before the towering tree donated by resident Duane Breidert was lit.

The New Baltimore Civic Club spruced up the Blue Spruce after raising money for updated decor, such as LED lights. Local students, many New Baltimore and Chesterfield Township residents, sang Christmas songs during the festivities.

Flashing sirens from a New Baltimore fire truck signaled the arrival of St. Nick, to the children's merriment. After waving and greeting the crowd, Santa shuffled to the Parks and Recreation Center, where kids sat on his lap after munching on donuts and drinking hot chocolate.
