In Photos: New Baltimore Steps Back into Time for History Fair

The history fair will continue from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Walter and Mary Burke Park.

New Baltimore is turning back time this weekend as the takes place at .

Union and Confederate camps are set up along the waterfront downtown as attendees stroll into various tents to learn about history. on Washington Street is open as well.

Judy Rock of New Baltimore was on the Union side of the park Saturday by the pier, tending to a campfire and frying up a fresh batch of old-fashioned doughnuts.

"My father-in-law got me into this," Rock said.

And the hobby is in her family that claims fourth-generation Civil War reenactors, she said.

Dennis Raymus set up shop as a Civil War doctor. Life imitated art for the real-life doctor who practices at Bay Area Family Physician in Chesterfield Township.

Raymus said he and his three daughters used to make Civil War reenactments a family outing before the girls grew up and went off to college.

"History is very important," he said. "If we don't know who we were, we don't know who we are going to become."

The fair will continue Sunday:

  • Civil War reenactments will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the battle at 1 p.m.
  • A Civil War walking tour is at 3 p.m.
  • A raffle is also at 3 p.m.
  • Music, food and crafts for sale from vendors along Washington Street are ongoing.
  • Wool-spinning demonstrations are scheduled from 2:30-5 p.m.
  • A historical costume contest at the Grand Pacific House Museum will be at 3 p.m.

Some of the area businesses are getting into the spirit as well.
