Chesterfield police say the accident, which trapped a family of four from Clinton Township in their vehicle, took place shortly before 7 a.m. on 23 Mile Road east of I-94.

Officers believe Ostipow, who was driving on a suspended license and had a preliminary blood alcohol content of 0.25, lost control of his vehicle while driving westbound on 23 Mile Road and struck the family’s vehicle coming in the opposite direction.

Witnesses to the accident told police Ostipow was driving erratically and speeding before he struck the other vehicle.

Police say the victims, a 47-year-old woman and her children, ages 2, 14 and 15, were injured in the accident. All four, along with Ostipow, were transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for their injuries, which police say are serious, but non-life threatening.

Ostipow was arrested upon his release from the hospital and is currently being held in Macomb County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.
